The Raspberry Pi 4 is out and its technical sheet impresses. Raspberry offers a new generation of its famous microcomputer. Logically called Raspberry Pi 4, this gem of technology displays much higher performance than the previous model.
As a reminder, it is in 2016 that the Raspberry Pi 3 was launched. In three years, several variants, and not generations, have emerged. Here is the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, a new model all in power and always sold at the same price. On the menu, a more powerful processor and complete connectivity.
Raspberry Pi 4 Model B: a very significant technical update
Marketed from 38 euros, the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B is able to support HEVC 4K streams at 60 fps and manage two 4K screens.
To do this, the Raspberry Foundation microcomputer is based on this technical sheet:
- Broadcom BCM2711 processor (4 cores Cortex-A72 clocked at 1.4 GHz)
- A VideoCore VI graphics processor
- 1, 2 or 4 GB of RAM LPDDR4
- A slot for a microSD card
- Two USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports
- A USB-C port
- Gigabit Ethernet port
- Two microHDMI ports
- WiFi 5
- Bluetooth 5.0
As a reminder, the architecture of the Raspberry Pi 3 was driven by cores Cortex-A53 clocked at 1.4 GHz. The power gain should therefore be noticeable. We also note that the Raspberry Pi 4 relies on two USB 3.0 ports while the previous generation only proposed USB 2.0 ports. In addition, this microcomputer switches from Bluetooth 4.1 to Bluetooth 5.0. Finally, the Raspberry Pi 4 Model now runs on Debian 10 Buster.
What price for the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B?
Three configurations were launched by the Raspberry Foundation. The price of each version is as follows:
- Raspberry Pi 4 Model B with 1 GB of RAM: 38 euros
- Raspberry Pi 4 Model B with 2 GB of RAM: 49 euros
- Raspberry Pi 4 Model B with 4 GB of RAM: 59 euros
And for beginners, there's the Desktop Kit that includes a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B in its 4GB version, a protective case, HDMI cables, a 32GB microSD card, a charger, a keyboard and a mouse.
