Samsung will integrate AMD Radeon GPUs on its smartphones

A licensing agreement has been signed to integrate AMD's all-new mobile graphics chips into Exynos SoCs from Samsung smartphones.
In the middle of the conquest phase, the American group AMD and the Korean giant Samsung announce a very strategic partnership. This is a licensing agreement to integrate Radeon graphics chips on Exynos mobile SoCs (System on Chip) that equip Galaxy smartphones, which will boost the future mobiles of the company.
In a market where smartphones are more and more similar, each manufacturer tries to find the right formula to differentiate themselves. Samsung seems to want to bet on graphics power. For AMD, it's a bit of a homecoming after having sold its 2009 Imageon division to Qualcomm.
Lisa Su, AMD's President and CEO, confirmed this ambition of conquest: " The adoption of our Radeon graphics technologies in the PC, gaming console, cloud and HPC markets has grown significantly and we are excited to partner with the Samsung industry leader to accelerate graphics innovation in the mobile market . However, the development of these new GPUs should take time. They should not be here for two or three years at best. Which according to our colleagues of Forbes could coincide with the arrival of the processors in 5 nm.
Anyway, it is a strong signal sent to the British giant ARM, which develops the graphic architecture Mali (and the CPU architecture at the base of all mobile processors). Indeed, in addition to winning a new competitor, it sees the first smartphone maker in the world to turn his back.
