It had been a while since Microsoft was suspected of preparing anything special with his assistant Cortana. After being shelved in the interface of Windows 10 it is now a complete separation that is looming.
In the last major release Windows 10 1903 brought by the update of May 2019 Microsoft had already made the choice to separate Cortana from the search function in the interface of Windows 10. After installation the button with the well recognizable icon of the 'assistant is placed next to the search field while they were previously linked.
But it was not just an aesthetic or practical change. Last week a Cortana Beta application made its appearance in the Microsoft Store . The application is not yet functional but its presence indicates that Microsoft should make the wizard completely independent of the system as is the case with other applications.
This is not a negative sign for the assistant. Like the Microsoft Edge browser, which will soon be available in its independent Chromium version , Cortana could only evolve so far during Windows 10 system updates. As an application of the Microsoft Store the assistant will be able to to be updated more regularly without waiting for a new version of the system.
The publisher has not yet officially communicated on this possibility but it could also offer more flexibility to its users by making it possible to uninstall Cortana for those who do not use it. This would also allow those who prefer to use another wizard to choose another application, such as Amazon's Alexa already available in the Microsoft Store for some countries but not yet in France.
